Fungal disease information
Information and advice is available on the identification and control of fungal diseases in cereals to farmers, their advisors, industry and students whenever possible. Information is provided through field days, grower and industry meetings, workshops and direct contact by phone or email.
Printed information is provided annually through the Cereal Variety Disease Guide, the Cereal Seed Treatments Factsheet and through an irregular email newsletter "Crop Watch" which is available to the industry in South Australia. For access please send an email to Hugh Wallwork.
Cereal disease publications available include two farmer-friendly disease identification books (Cereal Leaf and Stem Diseases, and Cereal Root and Crown Diseases) and a Ute Guide.
A chemical efficacy testing service for seed treatments is provided for the control of a wide range of the pathogens identified above. For further information please email Hugh Wallwork or Mark Butt.
The Cereal Pathology Group provides an informal diagnostic service for foliar diseases of wheat and barley. For root and crown diseases and foliar diseases of other crops, a commercial diagnostic service is provided by the Field Crops Pathology Unit. For further information on the commercial service please contact Sue Pederick. Leaf disease samples should be wrapped in paper, not plastic, and posted to Field Crops Pathology Unit, Plant Research Centre, Hartley Grove, Urrbrae SA 5064.
