Roles and expertise: Fish biology/ecology and stock assessment, especially of pelagic fishes; Ecological effects of fishing, especially by-catch and interactions with protected species; Conservation and sustainable use of benthic and pelagic ecosystems; Research management and provision of policy advice to government.
Experience: Assoc. Prof Ward is currently the Science Leader Fisheries Program within SARDI Aquatic Sciences. In this role, Assoc. Prof Ward leads and manages research on all of South Australia’s fisheries (Gross Value of Production ~$191M in 2005/06). The Fisheries Program employs ~36 staff and has a total annual budget of approximately $6.2M per annum.
