Product Integrity & Quality

The primary objectives of the subprogram are: the development of new technologies for maintaining food quality and integrity; enhancing the competitive advantage of existing food industries; and minimising the risks (biosecurity and environmental) that limit the profitability of food industries.

Research

The research within the subprogram involves a range of innovative technical ‘problem solving’ coordination and dissemination roles.

Current research in fresh citrus includes:

Postharvest Decay and Disorder Control. Evaluation of citrus packing processes and products to control decay and storage disorders.

Sanitation/Food Safety. Evaluation of sanitising products and their compatibility in the citrus packing process.

Market Access ( Pest). Development and evaluation of systems approaches to control surface pests of quarantine significance.  A novel food grade oil treatment was developed as a management strategy for control of postharvest citrus pests.
