Primary producers in the Tatiara region will be among the first to hear the results of three years of climate research at a free breakfast meeting in Willalooka next month.

The latest cropping adaptation research findings will be presented by South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) Principal Scientist Dr Peter Hayman. SARDI Senior Research Officer Melissa Rebbeck will outline how changing seasonal conditions will affect pasture growth and livestock operations and Dr Nick Edwards will discuss the feed efficiency gains achieved through the Reducing Emissions from Livestock Research Program (RELRP).

The free breakfast will be held at the Willalooka Tavern from 7am to 10am on Wednesday 15 February.

Julie Gaglia from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) said the breakfast meeting provided an opportunity to hear the latest research as part of the Australian Government’s $46.2 million Climate Change Research Program (CCRP).

“The Australian Government, through the CCRP, is working with researchers and primary producers to help manage changes in climate, while at the same time increasing productivity,” she said.

Dr Hayman said the strength of the current climate research programs was a focus on finding practical adaptation options that could be directly applied to farming and grazing enterprises on a local and regional level.

“Producers will be able to consider how different adaptation options might have real benefits for their own enterprise now and into the future,” Dr Hayman said.

Producers wishing to attend the event should RSVP to rsvp@seftonpr.com.au or call (02) 6766 5222 by Thursday 9 February.
