SARDI principal scientist Integrated Biosystems, Dr Martin Kumar has been awarded a prestigious medal by the Vietnamese Government's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for his work in giving coastal aquaculture "a new lease of life".  Dr Kumar led a team of young Vietnamese scientists in establishing a new clam culture industry and four commercial hatcheries. 

SARDI Sustainable Systems Chief Rob Thomas, was awarded an Associate Professorship with the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Adelaide, December 2008.  The award recognises Rob's significant contribution to the academic work of the School.

SARDI Food Safety Scientist, Dr Catherine McLeod was appointed as an Honorary Associate in the School of Agricultural Science/Tasmanian Institute of Agricultural Research, University of Tasmania (December 2008)

SARDI principal scientist, Aquaculture, Steven Clarke was presented with a Fisheries Research and Development Corporation award for his services to tuna aquaculture (December 2008).  Steven has been at the forefront of research into tuna faming since its beginnings in 1989.  The award recognises his 15 years as leader of the FRDC’s Southern Bluefin Tuna Aquaculture Subprogram and nearly 20 years of service to the industry through applied research and development

Dr Paul Hughes was awarded the title of Affiliate Associate Professor in the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine at the University of Adelaide in October 2008.

SARDI Postharvest Citrus researcher, Nancy Cunningham, (2008) has been recognized for her scientific expertise boosting citrus market access, awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Pat Barkley Foundation. The scholarship, judged by industry peers, will fund Nancy’s participation at the International Citrus Congress later this year in China with a select group of Australian researchers. The congress is held just once every four years, so Nancy’s involvement is critical to keeping up to date with the latest research developments.

SARDI's Executive Director, Rob Lewis was appointed as an Affiliate Professorship with the University of Adelaide's School of Agriculture, Food and Wine (March 2008). In its bulletin to national researchers, the University acknowledged the Executive Director of SARDI's strong support in progressing campus-wide collaborative actives and research developments at Roseworthy and the Waite Campus. "This is an appropriate recognition of Rob's national prominence as a research leader and his continuing contributions to the School, The University and the research community in South Australia", the University of Adelaide Bulletin said.

Geoff Auricht, was awarded the Qilu Friendship award from China’s Shandong Province, December 2007. The award recognises his assistance in improving lucerne performance in difficult environments on the Yellow River Delta.  This has helped to meet high demand for fodder within the Province, which carries the biggest dairy herds in China. Geoff’s research has also led to increased exports of lucerne seed benefiting SA lucerne growers.

Chris Bice, Paul Jennings, Ian Magraith, David Short and Brenton Zampatti, were awarded the 2007 SAWIN SA Seafood Industry Fishing for the Future Environment Award. Their efforts, as members of the tristate research team, focused on the Murray Darling Basin Commission `Sea to Hume Fishways project’. The work was recognised for integrating science management, engineering and construction to conserve and restore native fish populations in the Murray Darling Basin.

Dr Peter Hayman was awarded the Grains Research and Development Corporation Seed of Light Award (Southern Region), November 2006. The award recognised his leading role in helping the Australian grains industry manage the risk of climate change. More information about the award.

South Australian Women’s Industry Network 2007 Seafood Industry Award. SARDI and Flinders University prawn researchers based at the Lincoln Marine Science Centre were presented with the South Australian Women’s Industry Network 2007 Seafood Industry Award for Research Development Excellence. Judges recognised the Prawn Fishery By-catch and Discards project led by SARDI’s Dr Ib Svane for being highly innovative and putting into perspective the relationships in marine ecosystem analysis that will have an ongoing influence on the management of the Spencer Gulf Prawn Fishery.

Dr Belinda Rawnsley won the Innovation prize in Plant Pathology at the 16th Australian Plant Pathology Society Conference, Adelaide September 2007 for her presentation “Irrigation with reclaimed water: impacts on soil microbes under grapevines.” 

Food safey wins award: The SARDI Food Safety Research Program has won the prestigious 2005 SA Great Science and Technology Award, announced on Proclamation Day, 28 December.
