The spotlight is on the State’s grazing enterprises with two key field days to be held tomorrow, Wednesday February 24, attracting an impressive line-up of national speakers.
At the Sheep CRC field day to be held at the Cleve Golf Club, speakers drawn across the country will share latest results flowing from diverse research programs, including parasite management, precision sheep production, and specialist topics on ways to boost wool and prime lamb production.
SARDI livestock genetics researcher Dr Forbes Brien says the diverse program covers information sheep producers can readily apply through to major developments in efforts to breed and rear more marketable and nutritious lambs.
Meanwhile the role of perennial pastures in providing feed when livestock need it, will be the theme of an EverGraze Field day at Lucindale, also to be held on Feb 24.
The Evergraze Field day program includes speakers drawn from Australia’s higher rainfall grazing areas within Tasmania, Western Australia and Victoria.
Field day convener and SARDI livestock grazing systems researcher Nick Edwards said speakers will cover topics ranging from features in pasture to look for in a changing climate, using perennials to improve ewe conception rates, and new types of pasture varieties coming on line.
The program also includes talks by SARDI researchers involved in pasture development.
SARDI is a research partner in both the Sheep CRC and the Future Farm Industries CRC.
