Ever wondered if you could do more with the effluent that comes from your farming and food processing operations? Simply dumping it in ponds or direct application to pastures causes environmental contamination, risk of disease, odour issues, storage problems and also allows most of the valuable nutrient load in the effluent to go to waste.
Soon, Australian farmers and food product processors will be able to harness cutting-edge yet low-cost technology being developed by SARDI, in collaboration with the Environmental Biotechnology CRC, to do more with their effluent, converting it into safe, environmentally friendly by-products and clean water. This means that Australia's farmers will gain the upper hand economically with higher prodcutivity, additional income and lower operational costs, as well as environmentally sustainable development of their business.
Simpler variants of the technology have been successfully employed around the world, but we will take it one step further to fully integrate it into a multi-stage process, increase reliability, productivity and safety, and customize it for Australian farms and climate.
All this cannot be done without your help as an Australian farmer and agricultural or aquacultural industry player. Do help us by participating in our surveys, joining our contact list and asking your friends if they are interested. We know you are serious about your business, we are too!
To contact us to find out more, visit our staff contacts section or contact our business development officer at raymond.tham@sa.gov.au. More information and brochures will be posted in this section soon!
High-nutrient effluent from farms and food processing factories can be bio-converted into high-value, useful and safe bio-fuels, feed meal ingredients, aquaculture and aquaculture feed, pasture and crops, leaving cleaner water that will help Australia reduce its pollution, water usage and impact on the environment.
IBS has the potential to:
Lower feed costs
Lower water costs
Lower fuel costs
Diversify income
Increase productivity
