The Pig Health Monitoring Service (PHMS) helps you:
The service offered by the PHMS involves the examination of pig carcases, tissues and organs at slaughter (currently at Big River Pork, Murray Bridge and Primo, Port Wakefield). Disease reports are then sent to producers and, if requested, their vets. Two or three marketings of pigs may be inspected within a 4–6 week period, until about 40 (small herds), 70 (medium herds), or 100 (large herds) pigs have been monitored. Such a group of inspections comprises one ‘examination'.
Fees are charged according to herd size:
|
Number of sows |
$ per examination (includes GST) |
|---|---|
| less than 51 | $ 80.85 |
| 51–100 | $113.19 |
| 101-200 | $137.45 |
| 201-500 | $153.62 |
| more than 500 | $177.87 |
Examinations are conducted 4 or 6 times a year.
A 5% discount is given if membership is renewed for a 2 year period.
For single examinations, a 20% premium is added to above prices.
PHMS also offers collection of reproductive tracts from culled females for infertility investigations.
