Poultry
SARDI scientists are working to develop the world’s best welfare practices and feeding systems for poultry, pigs and ratites; through externally funded welfare projects and production and feeding system projects.
Primary objectives include:
- developing innovative beak trimming methods
- reducing ostrich chick mortality
- feeding and improving poultry welfare in the Solomon Islands and Tonga
- understanding gut fuction and gut health of chickens
- sustainable production of chicken meat without reliance on antibiotics
- high value products from hatchery waste.
