Impact of Insecticides Chart

The simplest and most effective means of conserving natural enemies in your crop and gaining the benefit of their pest control is to crop monitor to avoid spraying when unnecessary, and to choose the 'softest' insecticide that will be effective against the target pest.

The 'Impact of Insecticides on Natural Enemies Found in Brassicas' chart lists the insecticides that are registered in Australia for the control of eight key Brassica pests, and ranks these insecticides according to their impact on six major groups of natural enemies. A star rating, derived from the estimated average toxic effect of each insecticide on all the natural enemies, is used to rank 13 types of insecticide from the 'softest' (5 stars) to the 'hardest' (1 star).

The information provided is based on the current best information available from research data.

The chart is available in English and in Chinese.

The flip side of the chart shows the impact rating of these 13 types of insecticide on each of the six specific groups of natural enemy (egg parasitoids, larval and pupal parasitoids, predatory beetles, predatory bugs, lacewings, spiders).

All users of insecticides should check the label for registration in their State and for rates, pest spectrum, safe handling and application details.
