Professor Lewis is an Honorary Fellow with SARDI.

Professor Lewis led SARDI for 17 years from 1993 to 2010 in which he displayed foresight, commitment and drive in shaping and positioning SARDI as a major primary industries research and development provider in Australia.

Previous positions held include Director of Fisheries South Australia and a number of research and research management positions in fisheries and aquatic sciences.  He has 38 years' experience in research, research management, public and private sector policy and governance, IP management and commercialisation.  He holds a BSc(Hon) from the University of Adelaide and a DSc(honoris causa) from Flinders University.

He currently holds Professorial appointments at both the University of Adelaide and Flinders University.

He is also Director of the research services company Science Without Bounds Pty Ltd and the family development company KJT Lewis Pty Ltd.  He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and was awarded a Centenary Medal for services to marine sciences.
 
Professor Lewis is currently a member of the South Australian Premier’s Science and Research Council, Chairman of the A W Howard Memorial Trust Pty Ltd, Deputy Chair of the UniSA Institute for Sustainable Systems and Technologies and a director/member on the Boards of the NCRIS Integrated Marine Observing System Advisory Board, Cooperative Research Centre for Molecular Plant Breeding, Molecular Plant Breeding (MPB) Pty Ltd, Australian Genome Research Facility Pty Ltd (Chair of the AGRF Audit Committee), UniSA Centre for Nutritional Physiology Advisory Board, Airborne Research Australia and Australian Grain Technologies Pty Ltd.  He chairs the PISC Fisheries and Aquaculture National Priorities Forum.
