- 1997 – 2000, Adelaide University: PhD on the biochemical and physiological mechanisms of resistance in Capeweed to the broad-spectrum herbicide paraquat.
- 2000-2004: Postdoctoral Fellow with CSIRO Plant Industry – Using grapevine rootstocks to improve grapevine water use efficiency.
- 2004-2006: Research Scientist with CSIRO plant Industry – Optimising deficit irrigation technologies for viticulture.
