- Field pea, lentil and chickpea plant breeding
- Identifying pulse crop varieties with specific adaptation, production and marketing benefits for SA through early generation and selection field research
- Devising agronomic management systems for maximising production and minimising costs and risk of pulses in farming systems
- Pulse breeding, agronomy, pathology and physiology

Experience:
- Major contributor to the national variety release of Nipper, Boomer and Nugget lentils, Genesis 090, Genesis079, and Genesis 114 Kabuli chickpeas and Genesis508 & Genesis 509 desi chickpeas
- Leader of the SA node of the lentil, field pea and chickpea breeding programs of Pulse Breeding Australia (PBA) which has the broad aim of “better varieties faster”
- South Australian plant breeding representative on the coordination group of the National pulse Breeding Program (PBA) since 2006
- Developed numerous pulse crop agronomic management strategies for maximising production and minimising inputs including producing over 100 technical guides and reports since 1998.
- SARDI pulse industry specialist since 2002 providing advice and direction into pulse research, industry issues and variety release for SA
