Roles and expertise: Dr Steer’s field of expertise is in cephalopod (squid, octopus, cuttlefish) biology and ecology having worked on a diverse range of tropical and temperate species over the past 12 years. He completed a BSc (Hons) from the School of Marine Biology and Ecology, James Cook University in 1999 and a PhD from the School of Aquaculture, University of Tasmania in 2003. His doctoral research focussed on quantifying natural developmental and embryo mortality rates in the commercially exploited southern calamary (Sepioteuthis australis). During his post-graduate studies, he collaborated with other research scientists on a range of extracurricular cephalopod projects covering aspects of reproductive ecology and population dynamics. |
