Roles and expertise:

Dr Mayfield received his PhD from the University of Cape Town in 1998. He has extensive experience in abalone stock assessment, sustainable management of inshore fisheries and spatial management. His current research focuses on development and implementation of fishery-independent stock-assessment methods, evaluating the potential for fisheries on unexploited stocks, assessing absolute abundance of abalone, and optimising spatial scales of management.

  • Overall management of the abalone subprogram;
  • Provision of information and advice to PIRSA Fisheries on the exploitation of greenlip and blacklip abalone in South Australia;
  • Scientific leadership in abalone research;
  • Development and execution of research projects.
