Overview of experience

Emma is a Food Technologist and Packaging Technologist. She has 10 years experience in product development and 7 years experience in packaging development. She has worked on a variety of product types using several manufacturing technologies such as: agglomerated and vacuum-oven dried powdered drink modifiers, blended dessert bases, dehydrated culinary bases for soups, sauces, marinades, frozen meals, extruded and baked pet foods

The packaging she has worked on includes: Confectionery stick-wrap for high speed GD machines, Laminates for Horizontal and Vertical Form Fill and Seal machines, Solid board cartons for automated and manual cartoning lines, Shrink-wrap, stretch wrap and corrugated cartons, Tinplate and plastic containers, Labels, foils and shrink sleeves, Blister packaging for tablets.

Emma can assist with: troubleshooting packing line problems, improving the functionality of packaging (making it easy to open, tamper evident, improving on-pack communication; Increasing product protection, increasing shelf life); Reducing material cost (through increased line speeds, on-line waste reduction, reduced pack size or material gauge/thickness); and reducing the environmental impact of packaging.

2008-2009: Senior Packaging Technologist, Nestle Australia Ltd. (Head Office)

2002-2008: Packaging technologist, Nestle Confectionery, Blacktown Factory

1992-2002: Product Technologist (NPD) at several locations within Nestle Australia and New Zealand.

1991-1992: Laboratory Technician, Friskies Pet Care, Sumner Park Factory.

1990: Bachelor of Science (Chemistry), University of Queensland.

Recent projects

  • Corrugated display carton redesign for: Material cost savings; Product damage reduction through better protection provided by carton; Transport cost saving though better pallet utilisation; Eliminate safety hazard through unstable loads; Improved appearance at Point of Sale
  • Preparation of Material Specifications to establish agreement between supplier and customer to ensure: Requirements were achievable; Requirements were suitable for product protection and efficient machinability; Cost and Environmental impact were at a minimum
  • Provided Technical support in launch of new products by: Evaluating potential manufacturers’ capabilities; Sourcing & designing packaging; Planning and conducting Filling trials; Working with Manufacturer to resolve challenges; Ensuring design met with company and legislative guidelines/policies for consumer health and perception; Preparing technical drawings for all pack levels to streamline artwork creation.
  • Worked with team selecting and commissioning new packaging machinery (including auto-cartoning, ZFFS, Blister packing, high speed stick packing equipment).
