Overview of Experience and Qualifications: Martin has worked throughout Australia, Vietnam, India, China, Thailand, Bahrain (Arab Gulf).
Martin received his PhD in 1982 and worked as Assistant Professor in Faculty of Fisheries, Konkan Agricultural University, Ratanagiri, India before migrating to Australia in 1990. He is a Graduate member of Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Martin also obtained PCM (Professional Certificate in Management), Graduate School of Management, University of Adelaide, South Australia.
Over 24 years of post graduate experience as a researcher, teacher and fisheries consultant. Involved in the development of Australian aquaculture and fisheries for 15 years. Experience in the facilitation of aquaculture developments in South Australia and the review of aquaculture development applications and the aquaculture management plans. Provided research and development support for establishing commercial fisheries in South Australia.
Extensive experience in both culture and capture fisheries as well as marine and inland sectors. Major strength is a combined experience in applied Science/Technology (Fisheries and aquaculture) and Economics/
Management. Managed to create a unique blend of expertise in scientific and technical aspects, demonstrated in wide range of research projects, combined with the experience in fisheries resource and economic/business management.
Project identification, development, execution and management has been at the centre of working life. Also, extensive experience in project evaluation and project feasibility and assessment.
Extensive international project experience. Has taken part in completing over 25 major projects focussing on enhancing primary production and economic improvement, including projects funded by World Bank and the Australian International Development Assistance Bureau (AIDAB). Knowledge and experience in project management in Asian region. This includes collaborative projects, consultancy, tertiary teaching and consultancy.
Since 1994, associated with Ministry of fisheries (Vietnam), Research Institute of Aquaculture No1 (RIA No 1) undertaking collaborative projects (research, development and extension work) dealing with aquaculture and integrated farming (livestock, agriculture/horticulture and aquaculture) for the development and promotion towards achieving food security, economic improvement & rural development. Project Leader of the SARDI and Research Institute for Aquaculture No 1 (RIA No1) collaborative project, "Integrated aquaculture development in the highland region of Vinh Phuc Province, North Vietnam, funded by Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
Presently, Project Leader of a collaborative project," Development of clam culture (including polyculture with prawn) for improvement and diversification of livelihoods of the poor coastal communities in Central Vietnam" funded by AusAID (Australian Government) under collaboration for agriculture and rural development (CARD).
Has experience in teaching fisheries biology and aquaculture at tertiary level.
