Roles and expertise:
Leader of the lucerne breeding program.
Alan has 8 years experience with SARDI, and plays and active role in breeding lucerne with improved tolerance to acidity and grazing. Alan has a key interest in exploring new opportunities for lucerne in emerging farming systems, including the use of the wild relatives of lucerne to increase performance in drought conditions, intensive grazing systems, and in mixtures with other annual and perennial pasture species. Alan is also investigating the potential of other herbaceous perennial legumes for Australian environments including Hedysarum, Sanfoin, and native genera Cullen and Swainsona. |
