Roles and expertise:

I am involved in the evaluation of new pasture legume species as part of NAPLIP (National Annual Pasture Legume Improvement Program) for the medium rainfall zone (375mm - 600mm ave. annual rainfall) of South Australia. New species include Hedysarum coronarium and Trigonella balansae. The mainstream species also continue to be evaluated in particular Trifolium subterraneum ssp. brachycalycinum. In addition, I also work with farmer groups to determine "Best Practice" protocols for pastures and then apply those protocols on a paddock scale for demonstration. Finally, I have a keen interest in the ecology of pastures and conduct research on the persistence of new pasture legume species under summer grazing by sheep.
