Roles and expertise:

Ken Commenced work duties with the former Department of Agriculture in1971, he was initially based at the Northfield Research Laboratories as a field assistant with the Entomology Unit, and was later reclassified to a Technical Officer. He has primarily worked on a variety of Agronomic research projects and is curator of the Units Insect collection as well as providing an insect identification and control service. More recently he has been involved in the rearing and distribution of biocontrol agents to control Echium sp.

His other interest over the years have been in the release and distribution of introduced dung beetles.

Ken has also been involved in all S.A Government run locust control programs since commencing with the Unit. His involvement initially was as Technical Officer and more recently as Aerial Control Officer; he is recognised as one of the most experienced officers in this field.

Current and recent projects:

  • Control / sequential sampling of blackheaded pasture cockchafer
  • annual pasture
  • Management of spotted alfalfa aphid in dryland lucerne,
  • Damage assessment arthropods in medic pasture
  • Insect pests (cereal curculio, yellowheaded cockchafer and wireworms)
  • in germinating cereals.
