Roles and expertise:
- Management of soil biology program for utilising beneficial microbes to enhance crop growth and ecosystem function.
- Microbial ecology of disease suppressive soils, with particular emphasis on suppression of Rhizoctonia disease on wheat.
- Selective isolation and identification of microorganisms beneficial for plant growth and assessment of microbial biocontrol agents for control of fungal diseases on wheat.
- Development of molecular tools to quantify beneficial bacteria in soil and on roots.

Experience:
- 1995-1999. PhD in Applied and Molecular Ecology, the University of Adelaide.
- 1999-2002. Post Doctoral Fellowship, CSIRO Land and Water. Investigating phenotype plasticity in Pseudomonas corrugata, a potential biocontrol agent.
- 2002-Present. SARDI Plant and Soil Health. Development of a soil biology program for management of beneficial soil microbes for enhanced plant growth, either through understanding and management of the indigenous microflora, or the introduction of microbial inoculants.

Current and recent projects:
- Development of bacterial consortia and Trichoderma fungi as seed coatings for biological control of Rhizoctonia root rot on wheat
- Development of molecular tools to quantify beneficial bacteria associated with disease suppression in soil and root samples.
- Understanding the microbial ecology of a soil suppressive to fungal root diseases of wheat.
