Roles and expertise:

  • Prediction of water, solute and contaminant transport in the soil under fertigation and micro-irrigation of crops like almond, citrus and grapes.
  • Specialise in numerical modeling of water flow and solute transport in the soil and parameter estimation of soil hydraulic properties

Experience:

  • Over 15 years of experience in design and implementation of research projects on modeling water and solute transport in soil and use of saline water for crop production including vegetables.
  • Calibrated and validated HYDRUS 1D and HYDRUS 2/3D for water movement and salt transport under different crops and irrigation systems.
  • Experience of conducting long term field experiments involving saline and sodic water irrigation.
  • Conducted the salinity tolerance studies on rice, wheat, mustard, cotton and vegetables.
Trained at International Training Centre on Pressurized Irrigation Systems, Sifayem, Israel

Current and recent projects:

  • Modeling water and nitrate movement in soil under drip fertigated citrus crop.
  • Prediction of drainage and solute fluxes under drip irrigated almond crop.

Awards:

  • 2000 Recipient of the Golden Jubilee Young Scientist Award by Indian Society of Soil Science.
  • 2010 Awarded the Endeavour Research Fellowship by the Australian Government.
